Torquay & Surrounds

Torquay is one of Victoria’s major holiday resort destinations and Victoria’s surfing capital.  Torquay is the official start of the Great Ocean Road.  The town is home to some of the biggest names in surfwear and accessories who are headquartered here.  Retail outlets at Surf City Plaza sell a complete range of surf, snow and skate products.  The Surfworld Museum located at Torquay offers a fantastic presentation of surf culture, memorabilia and equipment through time.

Torquay is located on the coast 95km from Melbourne.  The town has a population of 8000.  While busy through the hot summer months, Torquay is a year-round destination offering more than just great beach and surf experiences. There are great restaurants, cafés, shops, walks, wineries, galleries as well as excellent accommodation.  In any weather a walk around the Surf Coast is spectacular.  The town offers other experiences and sports such as “learn to surf”, skydiving, tiger moth flights, great golfing.  

Torquay has a great choice of beaches with both protected family beaches and quality beach and reef breaks. Nearby Bells Beach along with Winki Pop offer first class waves.  World famous Bells Beach is the venue for the Rip Curl Pro, one of the most prestigious competitions on the ASP World Championship Tour, which is held every Easter.   A little further along the coast, Point Addis provides breathtaking views out to sea and sits on the Surf Coast Walk which follows the coast southward from Torquay.  The walk consists of an established track stretching more than 35 km from Jan Juc, near Torquay, finishing past Anglesea.  The walk offers fantastic coastal views, colourful heath, native animals and birds including kangaroos.
